PAIN FREE – Book Review

Posted By on February 16, 2010

Even though I haven’t completely finished reading this book I felt compelled to share it with you today. It was given to me a couple of weeks ago, has filled me with hope and has so far proven to take a major edge off of the pain I experience every single day. For those not aware of my challenge with chronic pain, I’d like to share the shorter version of my story.

About 2 ½ years ago I was walking around with pretty intense lower back pain which I thought was simple overexertion.  Well, I naturally figured that, having had an aching back millions of times before, never seem to know when to quit or ask for assistance I suppose.

As months passed, the pain improved on and off  but never entirely. Turns out  aggravated bulging discs were causing this never ending cycle of spasm. This wasn’t a simple case of treating lower back pain.

At one point during this particular period I performed the wrong move and did a really good job of rupturing one of those discs, but of course this wasn’t confirmed yet!  Ouch… I did get into the Doctor a week later, went for the MRI, enlisted in the physical therapy and ended up each day in more pain than the next. Evidently that extra movement was causing a mess of that disc all the while and further damage to the nerves.

Finally and there was no way around it I had a very common surgery to patch up the disc and the surgeon did tidy things up a bit. The challenge is, I have not been pain free since. Daily medication has been my friend and my enemy for a couple of years now.

I want to share this book with all of you because chronic back pain, joint pain and many others are such common complaint in this world. I really feel that it is often most Doctors focus treatment on the problem area rather than the root cause.

Reading the book Pain Free caused me to realize in a new kind of light how in fact our bodies ARE designed to move and to self-heal.  However when areas are not lined up properly or movement is not exactly in sync we are risking further injury, particularly to other areas of our body. The key to healing anything correctly of course is to line things up just so and the miracle of healing then begins like magic! Right? How else can you explain the mending of great breaks in bone such as the femur?

The author Pete Egoscue suffered a serious hip injury while in the Marine Corps. He was told by doctors there was nothing more they could do to heal his pain.  So this man himself took to dedicated exploration to heal his injury and he then began to train others.  He has undergraduate training in athletics is a nationally renowned physiologist and sports injury consultant and while his methods are tremendously popular Egoscue’s claims are not backed by official clinical trials.  With 24 clinics located in the US, Mexico and Japan, Pete Egoscue has strived to become the world leader in pain relief.

I agree with Tony Robbins who said, “This book is extraordinary, and I am thrilled to recommend it to anyone who’s interested in dramatically increasing the quality of their physical health.”

Take a look at this book you will find dozens of E-cises which have been specifically designed to provide quick and lasting relief of the following:

  • Lower back pain, hip problems, sciatica, and bad knees
  • Migraines and other headaches, stiff neck, and sore shoulders
  • Shin splints, sprained or weak ankles, and many foot ailments
  • Bursitis, tendinitis and more
  • Plus special preventative programs for maintaining health through the entire body

How does that sound to you?   A pain-free body is MY goal!

There is a revolutionary message in this therapeutic system developed by the author Pete Egoscue, “Starting Today, You Don’t Have to Live in Pain!”

While reading this book you’ll find some really thought provoking testimonial which are easy to relate, I did.  What I love about this book is that it covers the entire body from head to foot, explains in the most logical detail, core fundamentals for having each motion and position for what he calls “E-cises” done in a precisely aligned fashion.

For me, in less than 30 minutes I found relief in the E-cises for areas which obviously were affected and in pain caused by imbalances in my musculoskeletal system. All I had to do was assume the prescribed static position and relax! Now how tough was that? Not!

Pete Egoscue is convinced that most all chronic pain is due to such imbalances, and the most effective way to address chronic pain is to start with muscles. I think he is on to something.

A most important note when you do the exercises is to pay attention to every detail that is described with the instructions, for example position your foot straight and if needed blocking it so that it does not turn inward or outward… These slight adjustments  are what makes the system of E-cises effective at relieving pain by focusing on the inner most muscles designed  for that particular range of motion. Many of the E-cises are simply positions to maintain for 20 minutes or more to relax and re-align the underlying muscles.

One more quote by Harold Bloomfield, MD, author of How to Heal Depression, “Pete Egoscue teaches you practical powerful ‘motioncises’, motion exercises that will become your own best exercise therapist. Whether you are in chronic pain or are a peak performance athlete, Pain Free can help you transform pain into power, and hurt into heart. Egoscue’s methods will help you feel at home again in your body!”

This book has gotten me excited about moving again and returning to an exercise program, like you wouldn’t believe. It becomes a real challenge to get moving when the body is aching and I have found so much relief already. I have reviewed every move in this book and say to you, they are simple as well as safe. And although Pete Egoscue states otherwise, get checked by your doctor before starting this or any exercise program to address your chronic pain.

I sure hope this helps you or you know someone you can share it with. Please comment I look forward to your thoughts.

Enjoy Your Day!

I’m definitely getting this book since I’ve also been considered a “chronic pain patient.” I’ve overcome most of it with energy healing, but I’m always looking for more tools in the tool belt. Thanks for your inspired sharing!

Yes Teresa every little bit of knowledge in healing can be beneficial. I like to use the example of ancient Chinese practices… if they weren’t helping they wouldn’t still be around, right? I think the methods in this book will help everyone even the most fit athlete, you’ll love it!

      So glad you came by!

Thanks for taking the time to share your story and the journey you’ve been on. I’m so happy for you and that you are seeing benefit from the information in the book you’ve shared. Sometimes when traditional western medicine says” there’s nothing else we can do” it is truly a blessing in disguise. It allows us to seek out other solutions. The good news is those solutions are out there and you have found one that is helping you.

I suffer from time to time with back pain too. My wife has suffered with back and hip pain for as long as I’ve known her. From what you have shared here this book is something I believe we’ll look into. Thank so much for letting me know.

Oh I would just love it if there were a clinic nearby implementing the Egoscue Methods such as yours… what you are doing for people is such a great thing!

  6. Robin,

Please do, it could be just the ticket… it is ridiculous how Drs are so specialized in a micro niche that they themselves seem convinced we are stuck to deal with a condition when obviously there are alternatives to consider.

  9. Kimberly Castleberry says:

Ya know, I picked this book up previously and never finished it… I wonder where it went! Now’ you’ve inspired me to pick it up again. Goddess knows my back issues could use a second opinion. You’re right it was a very inspiring book! Thanks for the great reminder Robin

If it is anything like this one, I think I’m in!

  10. Thanks Robin!

Other than breaking my neck about 6 years ago and a few rugby injuries, I am still blessed with extreme health and cant complain. Any information like this is so inspiring and knocks the pharmaceutical industry which I’m not a fan of. Oops, did I say that out loud? :)

Great review thanks, I’ll go get it!

I think you’ll find Pain Free something you’ll refer to even after you have recovered injury. There are strong points in keeping the body aligned to prevent injury as well.

    Thanks for jumping in George!

Thanks so much for sharing! Esecially for those in pain like yourself. It’s a very tough thing to live with and any relief is welcomed. I hope you continue to see great results with the E-cises.

IMHO, there is no such thing as sickness. It is simply a lack of health. As of the light in a room, it is this light that radiates out in the dark hallway, not otherwise. By maximizing every aspects of health (physical, emotional and spiritual), theres is no place for sickness.

Everyone came to life with all the innate power to heal themself!
