My Wish For You

I hope you might find comfort and inspiration on these pages to take a chance, try a change.  I hope you discover something to share and something to keep, embrace a decision to create, develop and bring beautiful things into your own life. Just thinking about designing a life on our own terms by our own choice and experiencing that real reward in life keeps me fired up each day. I believe when we all share and grow together for positive change, the doors open and good things naturally happen.

These pages here are created by myself to represent who I am and to reflect my own life by design. While I continue to learn how to navigate through this ever growing and changing technology, you may see me doing more recreating of my own. In fact I am sure of it!

Especially for all of you who join in at my site, I hope you will make yourselves comfortable to comment and to learn from one other. If you are or would like to be on an entrepreneurial path to bring more freedom into your life, this could be a place to share and develop ideas in the company of others on similar journeys. I would love to see as many individuals, teams or businesses as possible, believe in how they can make a difference in their lives and those around them. Let’s grow together.

In My Business Life

One of the greatest strategies I  have learned in small business management and as an entrepreneur is to give more than expected. An extra touch brought many a referral and saved many an advertising dollar. That one thing that kept business on the “grow” was in was to remind our team to do something extra. Especially in a service industry an extra 10% usually costs you nothing, is often unexpected and always leaves a positive mark. If it isn’t a part of what you are doing today, do add one simple act of kindness in your service to others and you’ll be amazed!

A favorite challenge in marketing was bringing to center front a uniqueness in what our services had to offer.

An example might be that since there is likely more than one person in your area doing business as say, a carpenter, why would someone call on your outfit? And once in their door, why should they like to keep calling you back? (By the way, if they do call back make them feel real happy they did!)

Your best assurance for growing a business is if people are talking about your specialty. Are others putting your name out there for you? Your best invite is if you have something to offer that is unique. Have you something to highlight that will separate you from the pack?

Chances are someone is looking for you, they just haven’t found you yet!

In My Personal Life

I spent the early years growing up in an area called High Ridge in New York State. It’s in a valley near the Catskill Mountains. Love-love going back there. Wandering around that surrounding countryside fills me with warm memories of home. I also lived in Connecticut, Florida, California, Hawaii and South Carolina, too.

My business career has gone from restaurant work to retail clerk and from management work to business owner.

One day I was asked to consider an Optical Technician position and spent a few years of apprentice work before passing the state board exam as a Licensed Optician. It was a fun little challenge and over the course of about 6 years I operated out of a few Eye Care shops in Florida & Hawaii. All of these jobs I loved were working closely with people. For me, providing a service that someone needed was the core of my enjoyment every time.

The Marine I married gave 23 years to his country. He has been retired now since 1993. After Vietnam he served as a Marine drill instructor and spent the balance of his career with infantry units. But it was my brother who introduced us and I am so grateful. The two became friends while they were serving the USMC. They shared a hobby; motorcycle road racing. I wound travel about and meet them at various race tracks (thinking someone should be there to bring home the body…) But seriously, I did think it was important to be there to support them. Besides it’s always fun at the track when you know someone racing!

My husband Ron & I were friends from the start. I love that.

When he retired from the service it was time for us to change chapters and make a new move. Without a ton of planning at the time we decided to become business owners and bought us a carpet cleaning franchise. Over the next 10 years we where building a great base and grew that business into 5-figures worth of service every month. Then we just stopped one day and literally gave it back to the franchiser. Business changed after 9/11 and we weren’t alone… In trying to keep that kind of volume going the greatest thing we were left realizing was that the stress was far greater than the reward at the end of the day.

We have had a more simple approach on life ever since. Still meet & connect with many we’ve grown to know along the way. Still enjoy the part about providing solutions to their needs. Enjoyed providing service…  Ha! And we do find ourselves enjoying the pleasure of running around to serve a few folks we still enjoy knowing.

My Invitation To You

A home business is easier to start and grow today. Technology allows us to make connections like never before and Social Media is a powerful platform we all can learn to profit from. I love to share my knowledge with people who want to know more and am excited to watch a new business bloom. Please ask any questions, connect with me, save yourself a lot of research! You can have your own successful business online or anywhere!

I’ve discovered myself that often times enough there are moments when it helps to simply toss things around, even to a stranger! And sometimes there’s a bonus, the strangers become friends…

Come back and visit! Let’s chat some and let’s connect.

Enjoy your day, make it a great one!

That rss option on your blog here is magnificent, you should tell people about it in your next post. I haven’t noticed it a first, now I’m using it every morning to check on any updates. I’m on a real slow dial-up link in Australia and it’s quite hindering to sit there and wait for such a long time ’til the page loads… but hey, I just found your rss page and added it to the Google Reader and voil? – I’m always up-to-date! Well, keep up the good work and make that rss button a little bigger so that other people can enjoy that as well :-P

About the author

Have had the pleasure of working from a home office since 1993 and sure want to keep it that way. It's nice just stepping outside my office to play in the garden or take a hike with my pets when the mood strikes. Many agree, the most rewarding job to have is one we choose make ourselves. Also, spending quality time with some of the greatest Social Media strategists & Blogging buddies. Hands-down some of the greatest teachers (givers) I personally know. Enthusiastic sharing is unusual in some parts! Not this community. Such a very cool blessing :)
